This blog is an evolving archive of my writing, questions and intellectual experiments across psychoanalysis, philosophy, literature, artificial intelligence, science, language and the problem of meaning.

I began writing here long before the present moment of generative AI. Consequently, the archive also records changes in my own thinking: ideas developed, abandoned, revised and sometimes returned to many years later from a different theoretical position.

My continuing engagement with Freud and Lacan has been particularly important to this journey. Questions of the unconscious, language, desire, subjectivity and authorship increasingly intersect here with another field that has become impossible to ignore: artificial intelligence.

Rather than asking only what AI can do, I am interested in what AI unexpectedly makes visible about us.

What does it mean to speak?

What is a subject?

Where does meaning come from?

Can intelligence exist without desire, lack or a body?

And when a machine can produce language that appears meaningful, what exactly remains distinctive about the human speaking subject?

These questions form part of my current project, The Geometry of Meaning, including my Sinhala-language video essays and related writing.

My recent books extend the same investigation from different directions. Left-AI: Against the Fantasy of Complete Intelligence examines artificial intelligence through psychoanalytic and philosophical problems surrounding completeness, subjectivity and ideology. The Return of the Dead Author returns to questions of authorship, interpretation and textual authority in an age increasingly populated by machine-generated language.

Alongside writing, I have spent much of my professional life as a structural engineer, working on buildings, infrastructure and engineering projects in Sri Lanka and the Middle East. Engineering has therefore remained another important influence on how I think: through structures, relations, constraints, models and the limits of models.

But this site is not an attempt to reduce philosophy to engineering, psychoanalysis to mathematics, or the human subject to computation.

It is a place where these different territories are allowed to encounter one another.

The older articles remain here deliberately. I do not necessarily agree today with every formulation I made years ago. Their value is partly historical: they preserve the trajectory through which my present questions emerged.

This is not an archive of final answers. It is an archive of thinking in motion.
